How to import content using XML?

    WordPress.com has a Manage/Export menu item which very nicely produces an XML output file. No problem.

    My brand new 2.0.4 WordPress installation does not have a matching Manage/Import menu item. So how to import that XML file?

    There is a top level Import menu item, but that only imports from eveyone else’s software, not WordPress XML. Stuck.

    Any help much appreciated.

    I have a blog hosted on wordpress.com – LautLachBox – when I download the XML file and try to upload it to another WP installation WP says

    Sorry, there has been an error.

    File is empty. Please upload something more substantial.

    WTF? the file is aprox. 1.5MB big?!?

    I’m using WP Version 2.2
