how to extend header image

I finally uploaded my own image into my header, but i want my image to go all the way across the screen. It current extends only about 75%, but I want it to go all the way from left to right.
I noticed my side bar is lined up with the header, so im assuming theres some code that says on defaut only extend to such and such amount from the left.
