    hi,

i installed wordpress using the famous 5min instructions.

however i cannot get custom permalinks to work as advertised. i have read the instructions in the codex and even helped other members here get their custom permalinks to work. but i can’t get my own to work the way they should.

subsequently i would like to remove wordpress entirely including the database(s) and reinstall using the debian apt-get package manager instead of the 5min instructions.

i believe that this will resolve the problems i am observing related to custom permalinks as the apt-get script should do a better job of updating relevant files than i can. furthermore there examples of wordpress running with proper custom permalinks that used the debian package manager instead of the 5min instructions.

there are other threads on this subject (removing wordpress) but they have no replies only bumps. i will not bump this thread.

    please advise.

Delete the folder that contains wordpress. If it’s installed in your web-root folder then look at the zip file available via the Download tab at the top of this page to see the list of files and sub-folders.

You can use phpMyAdmin to DROP the tables in your database.
