How do I modify text widgets?

I want to have two category widgets, each for a different set of categories.I am trying to use a text widget for this but its not working. I am probably putting in the code wrong.

I put this code in tne text box but its showing up as text.

[display-posts category=”Adventures in Telemarketing” posts_per_page=”3″]

I don’t know how to put this in so it will function as code.
