How do I Add Posts from my plugin?

    I’m working on a plugin for my church’s web site and I’ve looked through the source code and I just want to make sure that I’m not missing something: Is there a post function somewhere that I could pass parameters or objects to so that I could create a post and then get a post ID back for? If not I can create one, but I figured that re-writing parts of WordPress into plugins would be silly if there’s already something there.
