• Wow… I just spent the last 4 hours downloading and installing PHP, MySQL and WordPress just to get completely stumped with the WordPress installation steps (or lack of). Why can’t someone just do detailed step by step instructions on how to do this instead of expecting people reading this to already know what is meant? That’s crazy!

Where can I find Step by Step instructions on how to install and configured WordPress (and more details with regards to any reference to PHP and MySQL)?

Obviously… some of us just aren’t as smart as the rest of you

Why can’t you do a search first re WordPress installation before ranting? It’s all there in WordPress Codex.

Now be a good boy and read the installation

And the link you give is exactly what I have been looking at… go figure!

Obviously not… or I wouldn’t be asking the question.

I can’t tell from your posts if you are still in need of help, or expressing yourself with light hearted sarcasm, so just in case, I’ll assume the former. There is a readme.html in the download folder. If you have a handle on the php apache mysql install and proper configuration, then I will assume this should be exactly what you are looking for. It doesn’t get any more straight forward than this.

    From the readme.html;

    1. Unzip the package in an empty directory.
    2. Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details.
    3. Save the file as wp-config.php
    4. Upload everything.
    5. Open /wp-admin/install.php in your browser. This should setup the tables needed for your blog. If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again. If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can gather.
    6. Note the password given to you.
    7. The install script should then send you to the login page. Sign in with the username admin and the password generated during the installation. You can then click on ‘Profile’ to change the password.

Ok… let me try this again….

    Let’s start from zero.

Where can I find step by step instructions to install:
    1. PHP on Windows 2003 Server / IIS6?
    2. MySql
    3. WordPress

On the internet. Google is a good start.

WordPress is a website content management system, so it naturally assumes that you have a working webserver already. Without a working webserver, WordPress is no good to you.

Setting up your web server to run PHP and such is not covered here, and outside the scope of the WordPress documentation. There’s thousands of tutorials on the internet for how to do that sort of thing, so you’ll have to find and use one of those.

    2. MySql

And finally a book which I’ve never looked at but Lisa Sabin-Wilson is cool so this might help. I don’t like the title but look give it look.

This and most open source software requires that you educate yourself to really take advantage of it. If you want to host your own server and blog with WordPress.org’s software then you will need to read up and learn about this stuff. As far as I know, there is not start from scratch guide.
