• When I created my username, I didn’t know it would be displayed on search engine searches—so I used my personal e-mail. I don’t like having my personal e-mail out there for the world to see. How do I hide this from search engines? (If you’re going to recommend I go the “robots.txt” route, please be very specific, because I’ve tried that already and it doesn’t seem to be working/I don’t know how to do it.)

  • I don’t believe that WP makes public your email by default. You can read about that policy here, under the ‘Your Profile and Personal Options’ section. As mentioned there, though, it is possible for a theme to do so, so take that into consideration.

Now if you’re saying that you used your email as your username (or you just want to change it anyway), you may just want to create a new user with admin status, and delete the original. When you do that, you should be given the opportunity to assign the posts of the to-be-deleted user to another (i.e. the new admin) one. Read up on user deletions here.

As always, make sure to backup your database before making a big change like this. That way you can fall back to it if you need to for some reason.
