Help with customising a theme

Hello,

I am having some troubles customizing a theme for my blog. I am very new to wordpress and I apologize if my questions are silly 🙂

I have chosen this theme for my blog: https://wordpress.org/themes/flatly/

But I can’t seem to make it look like in the preview. On my blog it looks like this: http://www.theworldinmypocket.co.uk . I have looked into all the settings and I can’t figure out how to make the main post be big, how to add menus, how to add a picture near the recent posts in the right hand side or how to have both a picture and a text in the header part.

Can you help a wordpress beginner, please? 🙂
