In the WP3 Total Cache dashboard I saw this message: “/var/www/richardsilverstein.com/wordpress/wp-content is write-able. When finished installing the plugin, change the permissions back to the default: chmod 755 /var/www/richardsilverstein.com/wordpress/wp-content. Permissions are currently 775”

Using sftp, I tried to change the CHMOD settings for the wp-content folder from 775 to 755. I got an error message saying the server refused me permission. I then clicked on the “Skip” button. When I returned to my site I could no longer access any pages. The site is completely inaccessible.

Please someone tell me asap what I did wrong & how to fix it!

  • The fastest way to fix this is probably to reach out to your web host and ask them to fix the problem.

I did and they did. But I thought I might find help here before they did.

But I think this shows that you shouldn’t always pay attention to such plugin msgs. They could prove fatal if you do.
