header picture

Hi,
I need help to add a picture to the header of my web site. The picture is visually big and dominates the lay out of the web site, which is something that I do not want. I want the picture to be small when it has been loaded to the web site and if possible to be located to the left of the name of the web site.

-I have tried to address the problem by reducing the scale of the picture when I load it to the web site.
-I have also tried to cut down the picture, so that only a part of it will be published on the web site.

I have not been successful in solving the issue. Please help me to solve this problem.
