Hardcoding Static Content on Front Page | WordPress.org

Hi, I’ve exhausted my options in getting what I want down to hardcore. I want to add one paragraph of static content (HTML) just below the header and above the automatically displayed post excerpts on my front page. I know this has to be done in Index.php, but I don’t know on what line. Also, I am not great with HTML either and I know I’ll have the text as in Header 5 format. Whatever you guys can give me would be great. Thanks.

I think you can do this by customising the page template used for your front page, in your theme directory, edit the file “front-page.php”, if it does not exist, take a copy of page.php
Experiment with adding your special text.

It would be best to make these changes in a child theme, otherwise they may be lost in an update. Details here:

you will probable need to edit header.php of your theme (in a child theme) and add your html wrapped into a conditional statement using the conditional tag is_home() or is_front_page() http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags

example:
```
<?php if ( is_home() ) { ?>
your html here
<?php } ?>
```
where exactly will depend on your currently used theme.
