following are some more options tried :
ward committe (http link – https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzvCHTTn4xINb0RaRURtcV85b2c/edit?usp=sharing) — works
[gview file=”ward-committee.pdf” height=”850px”] – local file works
[gview file=”https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzvCHTTn4xINb0RaRURtcV85b2c/edit?usp=sharing” height=”850px”] — google drive link — not working
[gview file=”https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0BzvCHTTn4xINb0RaRURtcV85b2c&e=download” height=”850px”] — google drive link not working
Looks like it is working now after I did below :
turn off “check for errors before loading viewer” in GDE Settings > Advanced tab.
Both google drive and dropbox are working fine now.
Is there any way to convert ‘SHARE LINK’ to ‘DOWNLOAD LINK’ automatically.
Officially, Google Drive isn’t supported (see the FAQ). There are several reasons for that, but overall the standalone version of the viewer wasn’t built to handle these files well outside of Drive itself (and they change their URL conventions somewhat regularly, making usage hard to maintain). I’m glad you got it to work, though.
I had an experimental version of GDE that did this translation of the share link to the download link, but it did not work consistently, because their URL formats are not always predictable. While it worked some of the time, the overall experience was still pretty poor, so I decided not to include that feature. Offering Dropbox share link support is much more straightforward, and I could offer that if it was of interest to people.
thanks for the reply.
i’m interested in dropbox link.
pl send it.
pathuri, how did you get your google doc to embed? Did you use the share link or the download link? I have turned off “check errors before loading viewer” but neither share or download link work for me.
download links work fine for me :
[gview file=”https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0BzvCHTTn4xINcndzV291RGZQekE&e=download” height=”400px”].
My observation is direct ‘iframe code’ insert from google docs has faster page loading compared to google doc embedder.
Please check and tell me whether, it is also for you or not.
1) GDE does not officially support Google Drive, so this scenario isn’t tested (glad it’s working for you, though)
2) GDE performs other functions to help users out, like providing a custom-formatted download link when requested, restricting it to logged-in users, etc. and improving the default styles of the viewer when selected; in short, it does more than the default iframe so yes it does take a second or two more to load.
3) You can speed up the display of GDE by using the Standard Viewer and unchecking the “check for errors” option on the Advanced tab.
That said, GDE is meant to be a convenience for people to avoid having to insert the shortcode themselves, and to add some other features. If you prefer to insert the iframe code directly yourself, then you don’t need GDE – so your overall point is correct. Please do make use of whatever solution works best in your situation.
Thanks,
Kevin
