Settings->Writing. At the bottom you’ll find a list of “Update Services”.
The default is to ping the pingomatic server, which then pings a dozen or more other places for you, Google included. However, if you want to ping Google directly, then remove pingomatic and add http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2 to that list.
There is one thing that Mothersh1p asked that wasn’t exactly answered below
We do have xml sitemaps plug in installed and this re-writes the sitemap after every post and notifies google, yahoo, bing etc automatically – is this counted as a ‘ping’ or is that a separate thing?
I also have a xml sitemaps pluggin (XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 3.2.2) that writes a sitemap and notifies the search engines automatically.
Would this be considered spamming if this pluggin notifies Google that a post has been made at the same time my Update Services pings Google?
Google Blog Search hasn’t been including my blog posts, so could that be the result of my blog posts not being included?
In the XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 3.2.2 pluggin, you can remove the options of updating the search engines of your sitemap. Should I remove the options?
I appreciate any answer or what you think. Thanks
Ok so I guess noone really knows, but I checked around and found that the sitemap pluggin does ping google. So I would guess, after a post is made, it would get double pingged. At least I think, so I unchecked the notify Google section.
Let me know what you think.
I would like to know the naswer to this too – does a ping notify google and does XML sitemaps generator notify google- if so then two notifies probably equals a nullify
anyone ?
