OK heres the deal, I have a website up and running with GoDaddy and have just ran the installer on their site and it says the install was a success so….I pick a theme and upload it thru the dashboard.

My problem is I didnt delete any of the old files before the WP install on GoDaddy hosting. So when I check the url http://www.darrinhoudek.com Im still seeing my original site. What do I have to do to get the WP theme to work instead of my older site thats still there?

    Thank You,
    Darrin

  • If you go in to the GoDaddy installer, it should give you a link to visit the installation. Is it in a different folder (darrinhoudek.com/blog/)?

does your old site contain an index.html to run it?

If so, that is getting precedence over WPs index.php

You can delete/rename the index.html and should be fine

To rjmastey: No there is no different folder.

Rev: My old site does in fact have an index.html

just rename it to old_index.html or something….

Best thing really is to remove all old files if you won’t be using that site anymore, or plop them in their own folder or something

OK gonna try this….I hope the whole thing doesnt fall apart 🙂 One more question tho, when you say plop them in a new folder, am I able to do that right in the GoDaddy Control Center do you know?

    yeah, from the file manager.

You can make a new folder in there, called somethink like old_site

The option is on the top left in the fiole manager

then select the files to do with your old site, and select ‘Move’ from the top, and then select the old_site folder from the left to move them there

Careful you don’t move any WP files

You can pretty much do anything you need in the godaddy file manager, I’ve never needed ftp software or anything. I upload, download, and edit right in godaddy’s file manager

Sweet, thanks for the tips. Will try

Hey that worked thanks. Now time to start getting dirty with the theme.

    Thanks again,

yup…. it’s easy to back things up to a different folder on godaddy too, by copying files.

I’d recommend you do that if you are going to edit themes. Copy it to another folder before messing with it in case you break anything

Also, godaddy has a history tab in the file manager, which allows you to roll files back if you wreck anything. I use it a lot…. I break websites!!
