• So I posted with a question earlier, and it was sensibly recommended that I search the forums. Which I did very thoroughly, and could find nothing corresponding to my problem (though there was plenty of GoDaddy issues). I humbly resubmit my question.

When I am attempting to upload my .sql file exported from my WordPress blog on a separate host, I am stymied by the lack of a “browse” button under the relevant tab, as outlined in the Codex. Is there any other way to upload my data to the SQL database on GoDaddy? It appears to be an old and annoying version of PHPMyAdmin.

That said, if some prominent member of this community thinks I should NOT use GoDaddy, I would take that advice. They’ve been good to me so far, so I’d hate to abandon them based on one technical problem and the Internet chatter.

(I bet I could find a forum bashing my mom if Iooked hard enough.)

Okay, well nevermind. I just decided to not move my blog after reading more reviews of GoDaddy. They seem great for static HTML sites, but a little sketchy for anything involving databases.

FYI for others who happen upon this thread: Their version of PHPMyAdmin does not have a “browse” button for pointing to your locally saved .sql file. It will prevent you from uploading.

    Try another hosting company.

Run from GODADDY .. not the best support of WordPRess …

I have read too many threads that have resulted in mothing but PROBLEMS with GoDaddy … try an independent host .. you will find that we can give you better support and customer service. (speaking on behalf of independent we providers)

I have run into this problem and I can shed some new light on it, although I haven’t solved it yet. If you FIRST install WordPress on Godaddy, Godaddy automatically creates a database associated with that WordPress installation and uses the older version of phpmyadmin (2.7.0). This version has no database import button or feature. Now instead of installing WordPress, try this: go to the mysql database manager on Godaddy (the button for that interface is found on the hosting manager page. Follow the steps to create a new database there. Then follow the steps to access phpmyadmin for that database (it’s an “open manager” button). You will see that the database you manually created uses the NEWER version of phpmyadmin – and this version DOES have an import feature. The problem is, how do you get your Godaddy WordPress installation to be associated with this newer, better database? Maybe you can’t. I think Godaddy is running the various applications on different servers and running multiple versions of things. But I emailed them about the issue. If enough people do, I would be surprised if they don’t fix it because upgrading the phpmyadmin version they are using for WordPress can’t be that big a deal for them.
