Global translator problem

    I have uploaded and made active my translator plugin but it keeps telling me to:

    Unable to complete Global Translator initialization. Please manually create and make readable and writeable the following directory:

    * /var/www/vhosts/ardleighbedandbreakfast.co.uk/httpdocs/wp-content/gt-cache

    The thing is, I have changed the permissions on this file to 777, could it be it isn’t compatable with 2.8.4,. or is there something else I could try?
