• I thought this was timely. Too many negative comments recently, and I’m rather irritated by people who judge too quickly.

    Let me build my case:
    1. WP e-Commerce is FREE.
    2. WP e-Commerce has a specific coding structure that technical newbies like me probably wouldn’t know how to modify, but there are people out there who do know and there are resources out there available for us to find out.
    3. I am a technical newbie myself who has posted a question (read: complaint) about WP e-Commerce and I have received responses from community users and the developer himself and their tone and everything was VERY HELPFUL. I look back somewhat ashamed at my immature tone.
    4. WP e-Commerce has lots of potential if only more people were able to help develop it.
    5. When users use WP e-Commerce and find bugs and report them in a clear, extensive and friendly manner it helps the developers know how to fix them.
    6. To a certain extent the reason why WP e-Commerce may have lots of bugs is because the community does not provide enough support to the developer (point 5) – in reverse, the developer is unable to provide enough support to the users.
    7. From what I read (see, I SEARCH AND READ EXTENSIVELY FIRST) WP e-Commerce seems to have improved much over the versions.
    8. In the words of the Joker (The Dark Knight, 2008), “if you can do something well never do it for free”; the developer is already giving himself to WP e-Commerce for free, so if you really need customized support it’s reasonable to pay him for it. I think we users of the internet have a personal problem with paying for things, since we can get so much free stuff on the internet.
    9. If you’re totally against paying, then solve your own problem with the help you find on forums and so on – you learn and pick up skills on your way so it’s not a waste of time.
    10. And if you do solve your problem, do return to render help to those who struggle with the same issues.
    11. I haven’t yet finished solving all my problems with WP e-Commerce so I’m not a been-there-done-that character, but I believe that every problem is an opportunity – to surrender or to overcome. And as long as I persevere through my problem and eventually find a way out, the whole community benefits as I am able to share my findings. This, is sweet.

    I rest my case.

  • I couldn’t agree more.
The only sensible way to develop plugins (and WP it self) is by honouring the the developers with good feedback.
I’ve just started looking for a well-working shopping cart solution for WP and sincerely hope you guys making it can solve the final problems. I believe this plugin will be much requested.
    About supporting each other:
If you’ve tried, you’ve probably ended with a two-way sense of gratitude – in my case also with a couple of plugins designed for my needs. Great help for me since I don’t know coding. In return I’ve spent quite some time testing the plugins in a real complex site setup which the developer hardly could simulate.
Keep up your good work, guys! And when I get to setting up the planned site, I hope I can give you a hand in return.
    Kjetil
PS Do you think WP-e-Commerce will be 2.6 / 2.7 compatible? Hope so :o)

    Thanks guys.

WP e-Commerce already works with both WordPress 2.6 & 2.7

WP e-Commerce (Dev) running on WordPress 2.6.X
    WP e-Commerce 3.6.8 RC1 running on WordPress 2.7

We are ironing out a few non critical issues with the way WP 2.7 handles things but it seems to mostly work.

    Fine – thanks
Looking forward to try it – it a couple of weeks or so.

Wingless_Angel31, I don’t see anyone else should have ideas against your recommendations.

I strongly agree with it and not just for WP e-commerce plugin. For anything that’s given free, we should respect the author of the thing.

    Thanks for this great attitude.

Hey binh, I posted this originally because I’ve been seeing a lot of negative and demanding feedback/posts/complaints/questions/everything about this plugin. You can search around to understand what I mean.

    Hey Dan,
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/
Wordpress isn’t helping you. Haha. It’s the RC1 version but it’s stated to work up to WP 2.5.1 so probably that’s how all your questions come in.
