Naturally, two minutes after posting that, I found out: the dashboard was listed under the general “Settings” menu.
Now my challenge is what to do to start.
You can enter the new API key in the plugin settings which you should find labelled as OS Maps under the normal WordPress settings menu, somewhere below General/Reading/Writing.
In order to show a map on the page you have to use a WordPress shortcode. If you’ve not used shortcodes before they appear in the WordPress blocks under Widgets, or just search the blocks menu for ‘shortcode’. A minimal shortcode might look like this.
[osmap centre=”53.068567,-4.076072″]
You won’t see it in the backend editor, but you’ll see it on the page preview.

That’s helpful – thanks. I will try it out. I have been using the old OS system, and have added multiple routes in different styles – but that may be beyond a free version plug-in.
I registered back in August and was given a Project API Key then.
I’ve just downloaded the widget, activated it, entered my Project API Key and created a test post with just [osmap centre=”SD8128299116″] but all I get is a grey square.
One thing, I haven’t yet been able to ‘upgrade’ to the Premium Plan yet. It failed and I’ve emailed the OS. Is this the problem?

To answer your question, yes it’s very likely that the lack of Premium plan is the problem. Do you see the map zoom controls in the grey box? Also check on the plugin settings page that there is no warning about an invalid API key.
Assuming the API key is OK, one thing you could try, until you get the upgrade, is to go to the plugin global settings and change the ‘Premium Data Use’ setting to ‘No one’. That way it will only try to access the free data. You won’t see the classic OS maps, but you should see their open data maps.

Guess I’ll have to be patient until the OS get back to me.
