Get Parent Page/Category

I’m trying to make a little “map” on my site, so that people don’t get lost.
What I’m trying to do is to put in top of the site the current category and the parents preceding it. For example, if I’m watching a Ferrari 458, then what I should see up is something like:

Cars > Ferrari

Of course Cars is the parent category and Ferrari is a subcategory.

I want to do the same with the pages and it parents.
Tried some stuff but nothing really worked, like get_page_hierarchy
