I have an image of a person stood up, and using the built in WP gallery it cuts of their head and feet and displays only the torso.

Seemingly then it only makes the container a specific size, and doesn’t actually resize the image. (?)

Is there any way around this?
If not where is this code in the WP files, so I can edit it and perhaps look at adding a more usable and decent functionality, like imagick to resize with aspect ratio.

    Cheers

Admin/Settings/Media. Uncheck the box that says “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions”.

    Didn’t make any difference.

They are thumbs though as on that settings page I changed the size of the thumbs (above the tick) and the images resized, but no proportions, still centre of image at 150×150

Changing the thumbnail settings will only affect any new images that you upload. If you have older images that have cropped badly, you’ll have to re-upload them to create the new thumbnails. Sorry – I don’t know of any method to force the re-generation of thumbnails. Doesn’t mean that someone hasn’t come up with a plugin fix, though. So it might be worth checking out the Plugin Directory.

It’s a new site, so re-uploading the 20 images I have now is fine.
Thanks for the info, any images I upload from now will also be fine.

I had a look at some plugins, but they all appeared to have way to much functionality for what I needed.

    Cheers!
