After making a major update (from 3.x.x to 4.7.x) all galleries are gone. Under “manage tab” it still says that it contains 76 items but nothing is to be seen. There are no galleries displayed on the site.

Is there anyway to retrieve the galleries or do you have to rebuild the galleries manually (76 galleries,≈800pics…)?

I have tried to disable/activate all plugins and clearing cache inbetween. I have tried the same thing with another theme TwentySeventeen. Galleries still gone.

The pictures are still to be found on the server under wp-content/gallery. Directly linked pics shows up on site.

    site:http://lovisajohansson.se/
here you can see that “no images were found”: http://lovisajohansson.se/?page_id=1366

    Thx for help!

Update – I tried to add another gallery to try a manual fix but this doesn´t show up either. BUT the gallery counter advanced to 77 items…

    Mysteries are to be solved…!

Update2 – same thing when trying to upload new pics to a new gallery. Counter advancing to 78 items, nothing to be seen. Or found…

@large63 – Sorry to read you are having this issue and especially since you were updating to the latest WordPress release which is always a recommended action to take.

You might look at changing your Permalinks to something other than the default. We suggest either “Post name” or “Month and name” as much better alternatives. Although it may not correct the issue at hand it will be better for SEO in general for your site.

If updating the Permalinks does not sort this out, you might look at using the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options as well.

    Thanks!

    Same here;
updated to WordPress 4.7.2 , using a sela child theme.
Switching to another theme does not help.
Turning off plug-ins does not work.
    Permalink change does not work.
can not find the reset function “Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options as well.”
Site is under construction at nieuw.toptuinen.nl
    One of the troubled pages:
    http://nieuw.toptuinen.nl/de-tuinen/kleine_tuin_3/

Deactivating jetpack shows the pictures in regular tiled galleries.
    Activating makes them again invisible

    any more ideas?

ok – after giving this up for a while, I found this topic https://wordpress.org/support/topic/slideshow-gallery-not-displaying-after-upgrade/

So – since php is way above my skills – I used the RollBack-plugin to downgrade NGG to 1.9.something and voilá everything works as before. Big thx @daylesfordsc!!

Q – are there any security issues in 1.9?
Are there any fixes available so I can upgrade above 2.0?

@large63 – We no longer support NextGEN Legacy (versions 1.19.13 and earlier) and strongly recommend updating to the latest release as there have been several security related updates to NextGEN Gallery since the 2.0.x release.

    Thanks!

I see your point but since upgrading above 2.0 makes the plug-in useless (Gallerys gone and no uploading possible) I still wonder if you have any fixes?

One more clue: when trying to create and upload to a new gallery with the latest NGG-version – NGG puts the uploaded pictures in the public_html-directory – so some pointer somewhere is wayoff.

@large63 – All I can suggest at the moment is immediately after updating from NextGEN Legacy to the current NextGEN Gallery releases is to use the Reset Option under Gallery > Other Options to force the installation to the correct NextGEN Gallery installation defaults (which would include the default gallery path/location).

    Thanks!
