front-page-cat – not working

I am very new to WordPress and scanned the forum for help with showing one category on the front page. I decided to load the front-page-cat plugin (least amount of php required!) and it doesn’t not seem to be working – all the categories still show. I am using the most recent version of WP… help would be much appreciated. V
