Flash and xml absolute paths

HI,

Driving myself up a wall here.

Made a template, works fine, images, everything. Have a flash header that references a .xml file for a image slideshow.

Problem is, the image url’s in the .xml are not working, or wordpress isn’t playing nice.

I’ve put the images in every folder/path, nothing works. I’ve tried absolute paths, http://www.something.com/images/1.png

You can pull the image up, but when in the xml it doesn’t get called up. Regular flash files work fine.

Wondering if something is wrong with the .htaccess file, I’m grasping at straws here because I see only a few people getting this to work, but they do not share how they managed to do so.

Any ideas, thoughts, cause I’m spent on trying to get this to work.

wordpress requires full-path urls for external links. You’ll need to type the full path in your flash and xml files so in flash load the xml using full path and in xml load your content using full path as well.

I have entered in full paths.

ie: http://www.something.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/images/1.png

It doesn’t work. It’s funny to me that people have said that it works, but do not show the reasoning behind why, or how.

Simply replying that it works doesn’t help.

Something in wordpress does not allow for anything linked in xml to work, period.

In the head I have

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”<?php bloginfo(‘template_url’); ?>/js/AC_RunActiveContent.js”></script>

I have <embed src=”http://somedomain.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/flashslideshow.swf” quality=”high” width=”786″ height=”150″ align=”left” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer”></embed>

In my xml I have

<imageURL>http://somedomain.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/img/1.png</imageURL>

It simply will not load any images. In Firefox you can see the block where flash should display but nothing happens.

I’ve taken this outside of wordpress, and it works just fine.

I’ve turned permalinks off as well, it made no difference.

ok so you’ve put all the full paths in html embed etc.. what about the flash file? is it loading the xml using full path?

Yes, I tried loading the xml using the full path in the flash file.

Have the flash call the xml with the full url of the domain in various ways below:

http://somedomain.com/slideshow.swf
or
http://somedomain.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/slideshow.swf
or just
slideshow.swf and placing the file on the top level of the wordpress directory.

Inside the xml I have tried calling images with the following

http://somedomain.com/wp-content/themes/mytheme/img/1.jpg

or

http://somedomain.com/img/1.jpg

or

img/1.jpg

Works fine on the first page on any of the above combos but when permalinks takes over for any page other than the index.php and starts creating fake directories, ie: http://somedomain.com/about-us/

It no longer works 🙁 I’m assuming now that this is a permalinks programming issue that has not been resolved?
