First theme, seeking some feedback

Hi all,

This is my first theme I did with WordPress. I’ve been using it for quite a while now and decided it was time to jump into the theme pool. Last night and today I did up a quick theme after reading this.

Here is the rough draft of what I have

And here are some facts and what it does, and doesnt do:

-I did the stylesheet by hand to start out, imagining how it would look (of course it didn’t turn out exactly like that the first time around). It rings in at under 5kb (the CSS file).

-All of the code is moved up and to the left, so as to save some ‘whitespace’ for making the load time just a bit faster.

-No Widgets, No Graphics, No Javascript, again, to make it faster on the loading.

-xhtml Transitional Validation, CSS validation (no errors), again, making it faster to load.

This is my first theme, you won’t hurt my feelings if you tell me you don’t like it. I’ve seen worse 🙂

Well, for whatever reason, Akismet doesn’t seem to like you. So every post you make has to be released while we train (beat it into submission).

Hopefully eventually that’ll get resolved.

Thanks HandySolo. I registered my username on a website that I used to do some bad things with. Not Spammy, not malicious of course. Maybe I fall under the bad behavoir area then? Or could it be an IP thing?

I never used Akismet so I don’t exactly know how it works.

But I can do without the crosshairs pointer. That’s kind of 1995, or MySpace.

I was messing around with the crosshair stuff because I thought it would be kind of cool to see something other than that frikkin arrow. It says to me, yeah, I know where I’m pointing it.

goodman-When you say dull, what would you expect to see more of? Graphics? That sort of thing? Maybe it could use some sort of an opaque star-looking thing at the top somewhere.

jon- is the +1 a 1 out of 10 or a 1 out of 5? A 1 out of 5 would be good, better than a zero right?

BTW, I am going for the geeky thing with this. I want you to feel like you are looking at a DOS page, but with better fonts.

+1 = über schweet. As in, 1up Mario. I love it. And I like the darker grey better than the previous background.

And one more thing: how did you tie in the forum with the commenting system on your WP? And, how did you pull off admin username switching? I hard coded my switch using phpMyAdmin.

I wish more graphics editing software used crosshairs versus their own stupid pointer replacement thingies. I don’t want to see a paint bucket or a finger or a pencil. I already know which tool I’m using; I just want to know where the heck I’m pointing this thing! :o)

Oh, gee, and here I thought my unicorn with the horn as the hotspot would make everyone really happy….

Oh well, back to the drawing board!

I like the darker grey better as well. And I’m not real picky about the pointer, crosshair’s okay with me…. but really, you should just use the default pointer because most people will be confused by anything else, and set your own browser to override for your pref….

The WP/bbPress switch is actually a plugin, and at the moment I don’t have the URL (but I can get it for you if you like). The plugin basically creates a topic in whatever forum you want, and posts it as a forum post. It’s a bit buggy (sometimes broken out of the box), but other than that, it runs itself. The Admin thing? You mean after the post as the post author? My name is Bryce (is that what you were refering to?), if so, it is just a simple call. Something like php the_author_nickname(); ?>.

uber schweet? Deutsch fer Very Sweet? Siehr Danke.

Want to know a secret? The background is the same exact color, I just modified everything else around it.

Ah ok,

Yeah, I haven’t touched that stuff too much yet. It shouldn’t be too difficult though, I just haven’t felt like digging into the inner-inner core stuff just yet.
