File as content type?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows a plugin or a hack that would allow me to upload a file as a content type (doc, xls, pdf, etc)

What I’m trying to accomplish is something similar to Drupal’s “file as content type” where you can upload a file as the content… so, when someone clicks on a link in a post list, it will autoamtically open a pdf or doc for download without having to upload the file to a news post, then have then click on a link in the post to download or view it.

I hope this makes sense, but if not, let me know.
