    To update, I have cleared the cache, and it’s not resolving. Mostly, it seems like some images resize whereas others do not, and I can’t find out what’s causing some to resize/crop, but not others.

    When I view one image, it seems to be cropping somehow from 1440×619 to 1038×576

    1038×576 is the default setting for the full thumbnail image size set by the parent theme TwentyFourteen – WordPress will always crop the images to this size.

    As for the home page grid images you may need to regenerate the thumbnails via the Regenerate Thumbnail plugin.

    Hope that helps understand the settings and in resolving the issue.

    Zulfikar…

    Is there any way to keep this from happening? I have some large dimension images that need to retain their aspect ratio and this is tearing them apart. I want to use WordPress for this site, but this really is a potential show stopper for me. These images need to be full-screen and sharp. This functionality is wreaking havoc.

    Thanks!

    Zulfikar,

    What’s strange is that some images seem to be retaining their aspect ratio, but not others.

    Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one, Josh!

    @josh,

    The image sizes are defined in the parent theme and therefore out of my control other than the previous suggestion or advising you to have a look at your media settings and adjust from there to see if it helps.

    @valerie

    What’s strange is that some images seem to be retaining their aspect ratio, but not others.

    Would that be in the grid or when viewed in single post view?

    EDIT: P.S. Another thing to note is, if you are using the Photon module of Jetpack then your images are served and resized from their server – therefore regenerate thumbnail will not work on the site server.
