Hi wesmelville!
It looks like the images themselves are not all proportioned right. The theme uses a thumbnail size of 400 pixels by 200 pixels. It looks like only some of those are the right size/dimension.
I’m not sure if you have tried regenerating your thumbnails. One way of doing this is using a plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
Another would be using a photo editing program but it can be super time consuming if you have hundreds of images.
Hi Jose Castaneda!
Thanks for responding and for the helpful input.
Unfortunately, the plugin didn’t work. http://www.thymefries.com/. Appears as though nothing changed as a result of regenerating the themes.
I also went directly into the featured image on one of the posts: http://www.thymefries.com/profile-food-entrepreneur-teeny-lamothe/. I changed it so that it was 200 pixels in length. Again, no changes to the homepage, although it did shrink the photo on the post page itself.
I’m happy doing it all manually if that’s the only other option. I guess I’m not sure how I should be editing the photos to ensure that they all are consistent on the homepage.
Any additional thoughts?
Hi wesmelville!
The width should be 400 pixels and the height 200. Yeah, it is an odd aspect ratio for any photo. 🙂
Any other advice regarding the resizing featured images?
I cannot seem to keep the thumbnails at a consistent size on the homepage. http://www.thymefries.com/. So far I’ve tried to regenerate thumbnails and upload at a different pixel ratio. None of it works.
Any other suggestions on possible fixes?
Thank you,
Wes
Hey Wes,
It does look like you are getting there though! 🙂
One other possible way:
1. From the Dashboard
2. Go to Media
3. Select image you would like cropped
4. Click Edit more details
5. Click Edit Image
6. Crop to your choosing.
7. You will see a meta box titled: Image Crop. For aspect ratio, use 400 for the first and 200 for the second input box.
8. Click the “crop” button above the image. ( Furthest to the left )
9. Under the Thumbnail Settings make sure you are selecting “Apply changes to: Thumbnail” and then Save
This can be done with all images. It can be a painstaking process as I mentioned.
Hope this helps you out!
This worked great. Thanks so much for the help…and patience!
It is sort of a funky requirement though for the featured image. Makes me want to probably switch themes.
Happy to help!
The downside is that many themes add different sizes so it can be difficult to keep track of them all too. 🙁
The Regenerate thumbnails plugin does help a little. Some themes are better at handling images than others. 🙂
