Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap. As you have such an old version of WordPress, you will need to carry out a series of smaller manual upgrades. See Upgrading_WordPress_Extended for the full details.
Thank you, esmi.
The reason I’m running the old version is I’m a slacker, incapable of figuring out how to back up the site. I look at back up plug ins, and can’t decide which one to use. I’m not a techie type. I’m a bumbling type! Please suggest which one to use. I’ll use it. I can back up the site at go daddy. Is that an expectable alternative?
Backing up your site isn’t all that difficult to do. I use the BackUpWordpress plugin, but if you want to do it manually, it’s pretty easy. Here is the documentation
There’s really only two parts, the files – which you can backup by just dragging the files to your desktop from your ftp provider (I use cyberduck and it’s really simple, but can take a little while) and the database – which is a little more complicated. But you export the database once your in the c-panel of your shared hosting provider (1and1, Bluehost, etc.), you just need to go to phpMyAdmin for your site and there will be a tab for exporting the database. But hey, no worries on the not being a techie thing, it took me awhile to figure stuff out too! But I’m not sure what version you’re running or what theme you have installed, but the site looks good.

Backing up your database and upgrading WordPress is one heck of a lot easier than cleaning up after a site hack. The latter can take weeks – even if you have coding experience.
Just to add to conversation. ReadNews theme seems to be a bit dated, if the featured image function disappeared after some sort of an upgrade, theme compatibility issue could cause it.
Unfortunately, it seems that your website may have been hacked. I just ran a malware scan on it, and it picked up possible malware. I say possible, because it says that you’re loading content from blacklisted domains, and your site seems to aggregate information from various websites.

Just FYI.
I’ve tried to find someone to pay to fix the issues, and do some maintenance. That’s almost impossible, or so it seems. Damn near all of the content is headlines, and links to commercial fishing articles, and I’ve had no problems with the site other than this featured image thing and, well, as you guys know, not keeping up with it.
I agree Victor, It’s the free version, and I liked the setup for news. I wonder if I bought the newest one, how difficult it would be to install it.
esmi, I went where you sent me, and when the page opened up, it all started to bleed into itself. My simple mind is not cooperating on this!
Ajmatic, I’m going to look up that plugin now, and make an attempt. I have done it once on my server. Then I read somewhere it might not be good enough! Whatever that meant!
Bore Head, shoot me an email. I’m guessing that giving you more work and more to read isn’t going to get things done on your site 😉
