Damn, can’t you wait for the release? 😉

Sure, replacing the Site Icon definitely makes sense. I’m glad I’m not the only one to think of this! I already worked on this new feature, although I need more time to complete it. I’m afraid it won’t be ready before a few weeks. This will be 1.4.0.

Haha. Sweet. Of course I can wait for the update.

    Thanks

Hi phbernard, I’ve been using your RealFaviconGenerator plugin for a while now and it’s been great. In your opinion do you think it’s better than using WordPress’s own “Site Icon” solution? Thanks.

I would like to tell you “sure, the plugin is better!” but the honest answer is more like “it depends”.

On the Pro side, RFG supports more platforms than WP’s Site icon. For example, the support of the new Safari pinned tabs icon has been added to RFG a few days ago. I don’t expect this any soon in WP. Plus RFG is more flexible regarding design. If I remind well, WP Site Icon doesn’t let you add margins around the iOS icon, which is a plus in many cases.

Now, the Cons. First, there is something a plugin cannot beat: Site Icon is a core functionality. You are almost 100% sure it still works when you update your WP, etc. etc. Second, the current version of the plugin does nothing for the Atom feed’s icon, whereas Site Icon does. Third, in terms of UI, the plugin doesn’t fit nicely with the Site Icon, since these are two similar features which appear in two different places. Not that great.

The next version of the plugin will fix these last two points by replacing the Site Icon and by improving it (without losing any feature in the process).

Thanks for the detailed answer I think I’ll stick with RFG and I’m looking forward to the update. Cheers.
