• I currently have a web site up with a wordpress blog in a subdirectory and just HTML static pages I created in the root. I want to move both the thesis blog to the root of the new site along with (Manually) the old static pages in the root a well. I will temporarily use another domain to practice all the new church theme setup.

To get my old posts over, I will need to export them from the database and then import to the new database. I see WordPress has its own import and export under tools.an I use the WordPress Tools menu to move things over? Is there a WordPress plugin to do this? Any other info on doing this?

  • I’m confused; why would you think that you need a Plugin? (Unless you mean the WordPress exporter, which is itself a Plugin?)

    To Export:
Dashboard -> Tools -> Export -> All Content

    To Import:
Dashboard -> Tools -> Import -> WordPress XML File

I tried that – wordpress to wordpress – and it seemed to work fine. categories are still there with the posts. Looks great. I’ll see what happens when I beat it harder. Thx.
