Excluding Category on main page posts

    I am currently running a development section at development.continuous-play.com

    I have figured out how to only display the “news” category in the sidebar but I cannot EXCLUDE the “news” category posts from the main updated post section. I did try <?php if ( !(in_category(‘3’)) ) { ?>
    But all it does is crash my page. Need help quickly!
