Excessive Reoptimization detected

I have recently been hit with the “The EWWW Image Optimizer has detected excessive re-optimization of multiple images.” The only recent change I have made to my environment is activating a new plugin (“WordPress Related Posts”) which seems to show up in the debug log (I have included the top portion below – not the entire thing).

Any help would be appreciated!

Yup, you pinpointed it perfectly. The WordPress Related Posts plugin (and the other two related posts plugins by Zemanta) are broken and they refuse to fix the bug. Their plugins regenerate image resizes constantly (either on every page load, or on every batch run via wp-cron).

Argh. So what do you recommend I do? I can contact them if that does anything…but is there a setting in your plugin that I can turn off to prevent this? (Love your plugin btw!)

Unfortunately, they generate their images right in the same uploads folder, so there isn’t an easy way to filter those out. I recommend you find a different related posts plugin, there are a lot of them out there, just avoid the three by Zemanta.
Even you were able to disable EWWW on those images, they are still wasting a lot of server resources regenerating those images, so I would never use any of their plugins, especially since they flat out refused to fix the bug.

Ok good point. I moved away from YAARPP because of errors it was throwing recently and the fact it hadn’t been updated. Any recommendations on similar plugins to Zemanta that play nice with your plugin?

Afraid I don’t have any recommendations, as I’ve never had a need for a related posts plugin on any of my sites.
