Events Manager

I would like to show Upcoming Events and Past Events either like the example Events Manager displays on their home page slide images (with links to Upcoming | Past Events) or with headings (below example).

Example:
Upcoming Events

• Event Name – Location – Data and time
• Event Name – Location – Data and time

Past Events

• Event Name – Location – Data and time
• Event Name – Location – Data and time

Can this be done in the Events Manager setting or do I need to update the .php file?

Is there an example somewhere on how to do this?
