event pages give 404 error

I freshly installed the plugin and created a simple event with nothing but a title and some text. After creating it, clicking its associated permalink resulted in a wordpress 404 page.

This problem repeats itself for any event I create.

When using a shortcode somewhere, the event(s) do(es) show up in the list.
