ERROR: Please enter your password twice.

I have downloaded and installed the Affiliates plugin in order to test the system to see whether we should purchase the enterprise system for multi-tier affiliates. We’ve already been burnt by another product. When the new user attempts to sign up for the affiliate program they see the message: ERROR: Please enter your password twice. and the new user is not created. the Password field is not enabled or required so the password should be autogenerated by what I understand from the documentation.
