Error Establishing a Database connection

    Hello All,

    I have the old classic “Error Establishing a Database connection” problem with the wordpress installation. I have already set up one blog with complete success using WordPress, then found when I tried to set up another using the same hosting company I encountered the “Error Establishing a Database connection” problem. After much searching on forums and speaking to my hosting company I have established the problem is that the “Client does not support authentication protocol”, please see:

    My problem is that I am a complete amateur and have never used MySQL, etc. Can anyone post an example copy of how the wp-config.php file should look in this circumstance and if there is anything I need to do other than amend this file?

    Any help much appreciated.

    No wp-config will solve this.
    The key sentence in that whole thread you referred to is:

    This has nothing to do with WordPress!!
    It’s just a PHP and MYSQL incompatibility issue.

    Okay, that makes sense. My hosting company (telivo.com), referred me to the external link I posted:

    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/old-client.html

    and said it was something I could resolve with the config file. They have been hugely unhelpful up to now, so it does not surprise me that they have given me bad advice. So I suppose my next question is whether I can resolve this at all without action from telivo?

    I am not a code/mysql expert.
    In the thread you’ve found (in the fifth post) they also linked to that mysql reference. Taking a closer look at it – it doesn’t seem to be anything that you can do from your side. All the remedies described there are to be made by the server administrators.

    But a coder guru might have other ideas…
