    I think I am number 1249074 with making a topic like this but i really need help. I think we all know the error:

    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    And this is my code:

    <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘hoi’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘doei’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘dag’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
    $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-content/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’
    // to enable German language support.
    define (‘WPLANG’, ”);

    /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__).’/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH.’wp-settings.php’);

    I was adding my new blog to my ftp and I uploaded it into a folder called: wordpress. I was following this video:

    http://www.optiniche.com/blog/view.php?v=wp-install&h=472&w=773

    If you need more information just ask me 😉

    Thanks guys!

  • Hi there people. I am new with WP. And I am having this infamous problem “Error establishing a database connection….+ the rest of the message”. I am using concentric and it is not working with any configuration that I tried. All options possible for host, db_usename, db_name, etc. I really don;t know what else to do.

    Thank you.

    Error establishing a database connection

    Me too. I am currently developing a new site while i still have traffic pointed to another by the same name. My host gives me the numerical address to use to upload and view the new site while I am still workign on it. Is that why I have the problem, because there is currently another site running?
