• For some reason I can’t seem to access wordpress.org at all (I’m posting this at work, incidentally). I get an error message of:

    412 Precondition Failed
The precondition on the request for the URL / evaluated to false.

I know there was some talk of changes this past weekend due to referral spam, but any idea what’s up? I’m not behind a proxy, nor do I ‘mask’ any of my Browse Agent Strings, or the such. I’m really at a loss.

  • A friend had this. Uses firefox, no reason why this occurred.
Was solved instead by using his ISP’s webcache.

And before someone says to Google for this error, we both did for hours at the weekend ……

Hrm, I’ll give that a whirl, though sadly my ISP doesn’t have a webcache. I work in the hosting industry (have done so for nearly 10 years), so all I could see doing this is some demented mod_security or mod_rewrite failure. I’ve done similar setups for clients myself.

For what it’s worth (in case others find this post), Firefox, IE, and Safari all get the boot with the same message. My DSL IP is probably what’s getting blocked.

Thanks for the speedy reply. As a long time forum lurker, you do good work around here, podz.

did anyone ever figure this one out…I have people getting the same error.

I have this error when I’m trying to update things like my ‘witty text’ file or input the ‘common spam words’. I’ve tried Firefox and IE. Can anyone shed any light on this please?
