Error 404 on wp-admin
-
I could not upload pictures. Tested with my banner and now my banner occupies my wp-admin. I have now lost all functionality for writing, managing etc posts. I would be grateful for help on this as I am new to WP and can no longer use it.

Huh? Tested what with your banner? How did it end up in wp-admin? Where did you upload it to?
Maybe ftp in and delete the banner? Or use the file manager in your site’s control panel and delete the banner?
Thanks for your fast reply.
I don’t know how it happened, exactly. I was trying to put a picture into my blog and my banner showed up so I thought I’d try. When I did. The entire editor interface disappeared and I ended up with a banner, a Error 404, a side column, footer etc.The banner does not appear in my ftp wp-admin file. This is the link when I check properties. I don’t know what to delete. I’ve looked at the code by I’m afraid to start messing with that…
Do I delete banner in the themes file?
I still don’t understand what happened. Could you go step by step?
Exactly what banner are you talking about? The trouble is that I have no acess to my word press (wp-admin) control panel any long.
When I click http://www.giftedtypist.com/wp-admin
I only get a banner, error message, side column and footer. There is no longer an editor so I can’t even begin to write, manage, upload or anything else. I’m completely locked out.
I’m thinking it’s all there but perhaps it’s hidden ?underneath the banner that I’ve somehow put in.
Something is terribly wrong here.
That is weird.
Maybe try uploading the wp-admin folder again. Just overwrite the files with the ones on your computer – or better yet, upgrade to 2.1.2 as 2.1.1 has a security flaw.OK WordPress 2.1.2, then. thanks
Can you confirm that I do this by:
1. going to wordpress.org,
2.downloading wp 2.1.2.
3.transfering files to my ftp (if so which folder does WP 2.1.1 go in?)
Will passwords or anything change when I upgrade? Will my blog still be there when I upgrade or do I have to transfer theme, banner and posts over? The thing is that i have no access to any editors in wordpress includings post writing/managing, pages or themes or any of the tabs – that is all gone now.
I’m hoping i can do this upgrade wihtout having to be in WordPress at allRead this:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress
Basically you can just upload the wp-includes folder and the wp-admin folder and the files in the root. No need to upload the wp-content folder.
Just upload over what you have, then run the upgrade script.
Nothing will change at all as far as passwords, etc.Ok I’ve done the upgrade to 2.1.2 copying files to wp-includes folder
and wp-admin folder.
All the other files which were outside those folders I put bin in the cgi binNow how to I make it work?
I still have no functionality because I can’t access the dashboard with the “write” “manage” “change theme” etc facilities.
Again, it’s just my banner, the 404 error, side column and footer. Can I make WordPress 2.1.2 run without going into the dashboard becuae I can’t get in.To use the proper WP nomenclature, my problem is that I have no NO “administration panels” as described here.
“Administration panels (located at http://your-wordpress-url/wp-admin/) are where you control the behind-the-scenes operations of your site. Common to all of the panels is a heading which shows the name of your blog, a link to your blog’s main page, a link to Sign Out, and a link to your profile (My Profile}.”
Something has gone wrong and when I hit my url+wp-admin, I get only a banner etc etc, see above.
Until the admin panels are restored, I can’t do anything on my blog.
