We updated to Simply Static 3.0 this morning and the generator would never move past the setting up process. The previous version did successfully generate static files for this site. Any assistance would be appreciated as this particular site is for a non profit attempting to save a hospital OB ward from closing in the next few weeks.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hey @tstockdale,

    thanks for reaching out!

Maybe the migration wasn’t finished automatically.

Take a look at Simply Static -> Settings -> Utilities and click on “Migrate settings”.

This will ensure all settings are updated accordingly, and you can run your export as usual.

    Cheers,

    Patrick

I’ve updated to 3.0.1 and followed the steps to Migrate settings. The generation is still continuing to spin without generating files.

    Hey @tstockdale,

take a look at Simply Static -> Settings -> Diagnostics – are there any errors?

Especially look closely at the “Temporary file directory” – is it readable/writeable?

Thanks for replying so quickly @patrickposner , there are no errors reporting and the temporary file directory is readable/writeable.

    Hey @tstockdale,

    that looks completely fine.

Just to make sure we are not hitting any caching-related issues, can you:

    1. Clear the database cache (if you have a cache plugin or it is handled server-side with a settings panel)
    2. Click “Save Settings” within the Simply Static-> Settings (the page itself doesn’t matter)
    3. Run a new static export

It seems that the task itself is missing from your export log, so there appears to be some option missing here.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

The database cache clear did allow it to start working, but now it generates blank zip files. It shows that it’s fetching all of the pages, but they don’t exist in the zip folder.

    Hey @tstockdale,

At that point, your server administrator (or hosting provider) is a much better help here.

Some things that need to be checked:

    • can the user running Simply Static (from the server side) create ZIP files with PCLZIP?
    • is the user allowed to write files?
    • Are there any security restrictions in place that prevent creating and updating the ZIP file?

This isn’t something we can help with here within the forum support, as it entirely depends on the server setup.

That’s the part that is confusing. I am the only administrator who works on the site and I have full permissions. Nothing on my end changed regarding permissions and I could successfully use the previous version. The only change was updating to the new version. Think a roll back is my best bet at this point?
