• Hi,

I’ve noticed a common problem. When I install a pre-created theme, e.g. some of those from WRC Theme Viewer, the comments are not enabled. I can’t seem to find anything in the WordPress Control Panel that can change that.

What is the problem? Do I need to edit the theme code somewhere. I did hunt around, but could not find anything in the code that was commented out etc.

    Please advise. Thank you.

  • So under Options->Discussion, you’ve checked “Allow people to post comments on articles” and still comments don’t appear?

Is there any theme in particular you could point out, or even better a link for us to look at?

Actually, yes. That is ticked. Here is the blog:

    http://tomaskarkalas.noosworld.com/blog/

I believe the theme is from the source quoted in my post above. It’s called Connections 1.0 by Patricia Muller.

It seesm you modified something in the stylesheet – that’s why some fonts are huge and ugly.
It says I have to be logged in to comment – but I never do that for testing. (You could disable that requirement, so we can test it). But the commenting possibility is there.

Do they seem huge and ugly? I tend to look at everything with 1024×768. With that setting, the titles are microscopic – totally unreadable (just checked Patricia Muller’s blog and the same is the case there too). Hence, I just changed the CSS font numebrs for text on the titles and sidebars to make them a little larger.

I just took a look under 800×600 and they still seem pretty sensible to me. What resolution are you using for them to be huge and ugly?

But I definitely did not modify anything else to make the comments go away. It was just adjusting the fonts.

Anyway, I did find and disable that requirement you mention above. But I still don’t see a comments box appearing. And another strange thing is that when I disabled that requirement of being registered and logged in, I note that the font size on the post titling has decreased bakc to microscopic size again! I didn’t do anything else. Weird.

Clear your cache – both in the browser and the “cache” folder under wp-content.
Check your moderation queue – just left a comment.
Res: 1024×768 (or whatever it is). The content text is normal, but the post titles, the dates and the sidebar… screwed up. I can take a snapshot if you want.

“Do they seem huge and ugly? I tend to look at everything with 1024×768.”

I use 1024×768 – and see exactly what moshu’s seeing. HUGE headers (titles) in the posts and sidebar.

Incidentally, the display issues might be found and solved by checking this out: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftomaskarkalas.noosworld.com%2Fblog%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&ss=1

    130 errors…

Hmmmm. That’s VERY strange. I’m using IE6 and 1024×768 screen and it looks fine to me. Yes, Moshu, would you please do a screen shot? And yes, I am checking that thread right now.

Anyway, the comment did come through to the moderation queue. But how did you post it? I still don’t see a comment box anywhere. How do I get it to come up?

    Regards,

How do I get it to come up?
Clicked on the “No comments” link 🙂
What do you do to get into the comments area?

    Thread Starter asoka1

    (@asoka1)

Well, on the other WordPress blogs I have elsewhere (e.g. http://www.aksworld.com/blog), I have been used to a “comments/trackback” link at the bottom of the main post, which is then clicked to yield the existing comments, plus the comments box itself.

I suppose I am just getting confused by this new template. It’s not one I am familiar with, and I am just helping the blogger out in setting it up. What you are saying is that the “No Comments” link is basically the same things as I have just mentioned. Correct? If so, I guess I didn’t expect to see it in a different place (plus the “microscopic” size of it threw me off looking at it too hard anyway!)

As for the error validation link from ladydeluna, it’s a bit of a strange result. Most of the errors seem to be related to the poster’s entries themselves. But he is simply typing his posts in without any HTML. He doesn’t know any coding, let alone to make mistakes. Hence, I am not sure why it is revealing these “errors”. Why would that be?

That graphic is VERY weird. Wow! What browser do you use?

    Asoka

    1. There is no rule where the link to comments should be. And every posts title is a “permalink” – that’s the other way to go to “single post view” where the comments are displayed.

    2. If the blogger is using the “nice” wysiwyg editor, then he is able to make many mistakes and create errors. (For some odd reasons people think they don’t have to learn anything if they have a wysiwyg editor, so most of the innocent “non-coder” users successfully screw up their blog. I always diable it for any code-illiterate client 😉

    3. Are you sure the font size in your browser is set to “normal”?

    Edit. I use Firefox.

Am I able to upload an image too, for you to see what I am seeing? I don’t see a place on the reply box to do that. Maybe it is just for moderators?

I wonder if it’s a Firefox issue? I wonder – does Ladydelaluna also use Firefox?

By the way, do you also see abnormally large fonts on my own blog, aksworld.com/blog? I have not had any complaints of it. Yet, they look normal to me too.

    I am getting paranoid now!

    Asoka

Am I able to upload an image too, for you to see what I am seeing?

Yes, on your own server 😉

And your blog looks absolutely normal from here.
