eliminating white space

Love your Gateway theme – perfect for the clean look I’m going for. But there is too much white space that I do not understand how to remove. I am using a child theme. I’d like to have far less white space around the company name and also would like the photo and copy to be much higher and closer to the gray underscoreline under the navigation. When I look at this in firebug I’m seeing basic div areas – so I’m not sure how to go about making those changes. Please help.
