• Hi there

Unless I am missing something obvious is there a way to edit an existing page / post and save a draft of those changes so I can come back to it later and keep working?

I understand there is a “switch to draft” option for existing pages but this unpublishes the page / posit at the same time so it is not visible on the site while I make changes to it.

I need to be able to make changes to existing pages over a week (add new blocks etc), send them to a client for review and then when the client signs them of the changes are then published.

It seems this should be a basic feature of WordPress?

I know there is an autosave feature but you need to go in and restore this autosave which is time consuming.

The only other thing i could see is to duplicate the page and make changes in a duplicate page but that will be very difficult to manage.

    Any help appreciated.

  • This should be built-in to WordPress, but it is not. We often have this difficulty collaborating on the various parts of wordpress.org because of this lack.

There is a plugin to make previews of a post visible to external, by way of a link, but that is for before it is published. (that one is used here)
There is a plugin to duplicate posts for you, but you would still need to juggle the status of the new one and then the hassle of getting the new version back to the original (so the URL doesn’t change) and deleting the new one.

Perhaps if the workflow could be defined, it could then be incorporated into WordPress.
    1. Save changes as revision. (that’s already happening)
    2. Change status of revision to Draft (instead of auto-draft) (but this makes it visible in post list)
    3. when ready, change status back to revision so content is used for original post as Update

Maybe all that is really needed is a better way to manage the status of the revision, and of course, be able to see a revision at the same time as the existing published post.
