I’m sure this is something I’ve forgotten to do or did incorrectly but I’ve gone through the wordpress guide and a few others and I my transfer is still a bit of a mess.

Here’s the site where it lives now

Here’s where it’s trying to find a new home

As you can see there are a few success and a few failures.

    WIN:
-Page content and navigation has appeared (though not all of the navigation and not in the correct order)
    -That’s it!

    FAIL:
    -Navigation is a hot mess
-NONE of the images meant to appear in the “slider” work (on the “Home” page)
-NONE of the images or background images work… in general
-The default “blog” page is once again the root page. We had changed the blog page to a news page and had the “Home” page be the root (I did that myself, not that I remember how at this point)

Here’s the process I’ve gone through so far:

    1. Compressed everything at swingtoronto.ballyhoosociety.com and downloaded
    2. Created a new database on waltztoronto.com (we didn’t need any of the old blog stuff, just the design to get moved over)
    3. Edited the wp-config file to represent the new server/database values
    4. Uploaded it to the root html folder of waltztoronto.com, unpacked it and what not
    5. Activated the correct theme (Cotton)
    6. Used the wordpress import/export tool to copy over who knows what
    7. Used “Search and Replace” plug-in to update coded values of domain instances
    8. Why for not anything work?

I would be eternally grateful if someone could help me figure out how to get the design parts updated without just redoing them all. Thanks a bundle!

The default “blog” page is once again the root page. We had changed the blog page to a news page and had the “Home” page be the root (I did that myself, not that I remember how at this point)

    Go to Dashboard, settings, reading.
Choose “A static page” and then next to “front page” select the page that you have created that you would like for your visitors to see when they first arrive to your site.

    -Navigation is a hot mess

Go to “Appearance” > “Menus” to make sure you have a menu created with the correct pages in the correct order. You may have to create a menu, or you may just have to re-order the pages.

For the images, go in and check the links. Also, make sure they are in the actual files of the new installation. The images may not have transferred over for some reason…

    @t-p that was step 7.

@april-davis: there’s something missing in this site transfer that should have done all of that for me (I had thought it was when I used the import/export feature of wordpress). I know I can do it and step by step replace all the values and fix all the menus, but if this is all a result of me missing one step I’d rather do that. If not I’ll go through the process of reapplying the design as best I can though I didn’t make the site originally, so that may be a challege.
