I’ve set up my account successfully and I want to make http://hiroshimacommittee.org/wordpress
into: http://hiroshimacommittee.org .. ie without the wordpress bit. When I sent the co. who hosts this site the details below from WordPress about mapping an existing domain he sent me this confusing response:

“that’s if you want wordpress.com to host your blog.

You’ve got your own wordpress blog now hosted in australia on your own
hosting account. To manage it just log in to the admin panel using the
admin login/password that you provided when you installed it in cpanel”

I just need to know if it is possible to map an existing domain name to wordpress site or if I’m stuck with /wordpress on the end of every page?
    …………

This is what I read on WordPress:

Now I would like to map the domain name to WordPress. They need this info:

You can map a domain that you already own to a WordPress.com blog for 9.97 credits ($9.97) per year. Note that you must update the name servers for your domain before you will be able to purchase the domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.com (see steps below). Note that you cannot map the “www” subdomain because WordPress.com removes the “www” from all URLs.
Please note and understand that the Domain Mapping Upgrade is for one domain only. It does not allow you to switch to a different domain later during the upgrade period. If you want to later map a different domain to your blog, you will need to purchase the upgrade again.
Update your domain’s name servers to the following. Make sure to remove any existing name servers that are already there.

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you’re not sure how to update name servers, ask your registrar and they should be able to help you. For domains such as .com.br and other international TLDs, your registrar may require us to add a zone record on the WordPress.com servers before you can update the name servers. Please <http://support.wordpress.com/contact/>contact support with the appropriate information, and we will take care of this for you. If your registrar needs the IP addresses, you can use the following. However, note that IP addresses are subject to change and updating the name servers is preferred.

    72.233.69.14
    76.74.159.137
    64.34.177.159
