• (I posted this in plugin forum but got no response so I’m trying here)

I’m considering using WP for a membership/subscription site. I’d like to know if there is a reliable and free plug-in that will allow me to sell memberships using paypal accounts and credit cards. I want it to work with the non-pro paypal account. It would be preferable if membership UN/PW and payment processing were automated.

Can someone let me know if this will be possible with WP or should I look for another cms?

Other features I will need are:
    1. Forum
    2. front-end file upload restricted to registered members
    3. video embedding
    4. automatically creation of a registered user “area” where each user can upload audio and video files

Is this asking too much of Word Press? I test drove Joomla and all their membership/subscription plugins cost money. Drupal has UberCart which is free, but Drupal is a pain to use and the administrator interface is not intuitive.

  • I can only assume that you have not done much searching by keyword in the forum yet. Start with a broad base and refine your search terms within those results.

    1) http://wordpress.org/search/forum?forums=1

Top result is recommended, but there are plenty of other solutions.

    2) http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=members+upload&sort=

Lots of ideas to work with there.

    3) http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=embed+video&sort=

More choices that you can shake a stick at. Some of which work exceptionally well.

    4) possibly related to number 2. Investigate and be inspired by the possibilities, I would use the search results as a stepping stone to more member oriented topics

This is by no means a limited set of resources. Key word searches will undoubtedly reveal similar questions, issues and a variety of solutions for almost any type of modifications.

The success of “free” will often depend on how much you want to learn and how much effort you put into it. I screwed around with Drupal, Joomla, PHP-Nuke, and a dozen others systems before finding WordPress back when it was in version 1.2. I haven’t used any other platform since.

    Good luck to you!

Sorry. I gave you a crappy search link to the forum integration issue.
    Here’s a better one.

Register Plus is a great plugin that lets you generate an invitation code. You might be able to use that feature like, or even as, a coupon code in an online store. Don’t have the details clear in my head how you could do this, but it seems like the solutuion might lie in there somewhere. I think Register Plus is the best WP registration plugin though.

    1. Forum: http://bbpress.org/ would be a good place to start
    2. front-end file upload restricted to registered members. WordPress has built-in ways to manage user access. Also, Register Plus helps with that.
    3. video embedding. Just get the link from the video host and embed it into the post or page. Users you assign to low levels can’t post content; users you assign to higher levels can post content. A video embed link or URL is content.
    4. automatically creation of a registered user “area” where each user can upload audio and video files. With WP’s and RP’s user access tools, your users would log in to the Word Press admin area itself and work with their content there.

Check out WP’s Support Documentation about user access. And the Register Plus web site. http://devbits.ca
