Hi there, I’m pretty new at wordpress.. but I’ve been working on sites for a few years now. And I just can’t seem to figure this one out. I did a search through the forums, but everyone else seems to be having this problem on their first day of moving their site onto hosting.

I moved over to my mom’s reseller hosting (I think its on hostgator, but I’m not exactly sure) and that was almost 2 weeks ago.

I check my blog every morning, and for the past 4 days the site’s been reverting back to wordpress (with my old theme and everything). Up until today all I’ve done about it is say “WTF, F it” and then check an hour or 2 later.. and by then its back to normal.

So what the hell? It shouldn’t be taking this long to propagate.. and why would the DNS revert back to the old nameservers every day at relatively the same time?

I can’t even access cpanel through skunky-vibes.com/cpanel because the domain itself is pointing to the old wordpress site I had 2 weeks ago. I tried getting rid of a caching plugin I had installed (it was also messing up the facebook login), and I also tried clearing my browser cache and re-checking to see if it was on my end. No dice.

Any insight or support would be greatly appreciated.

The domain’s name servers for skunky-vibes.com are directing to WordPress.com, not Hostgator.

Is that the site you’re referring to? If so, you’ll need to direct the domain’s nameservers to Hostgator (or your reseller’s nameservers if they are different from Hostgator’s).

lol as soon as I posted this, I checked my site – now it’s pointing to my server again. I’d still really appreciate help on this, it’ll probably be messed up again tomorrow. (like I said, it’s done this almost every day this week)

I should also mention… I activated cloudflare in cpanel earlier this week… could this have something to do with it?

Perhaps, could you answer the question above please?

yes thats the site im referring to, and as far as I know the nameservers (my domain’s hosted on namecheap) are pointing to the hosting. If they weren’t it would always be showing my old wordpress site, wouldn’t it?

Yeah, that domain is definitely pointing to WordPress.com still: https://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/skunky-vibes.com

I honestly can’t say why it’s not going to WordPress.com, but the domain is definitely pointed there.

Make sure that you change your name servers through your registrar. If you plan to use CloudFlare, your domain’s name servers needs to be pointing to Cloudflare. Otherwise, they just need to point to your new hosting provider.

man that makes no [Expletive moderated] sense xD so frustrating, dude. (not that im taking it out on you, I definitely appreciate your support!)

I go into my domain DNS settings on namecheap, and they’re definitely not pointing to ns2.wordpress.com
    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

I’ll try disabling cloudflare in cpanel.. worth a shot

Yeah, try changing them again in Namecheap too, check https://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/skunky-vibes.com in about an hour, then contact Namecheap if they still haven’t changed.

To be honest, I have had this exact problem with Namecheap before.

you say “change them in namecheap too” – is there somewhere else I need to change them? damn I feel like such a noob…

I mean just make sure they are correct in Namecheap, and if so, hit the save button again.

An update: woke up again this morning, it reverted. So I went over to my mom’s computer to check it – it was the proper version. This leads me to believe it was some kind of cached version on my computer.

So I ran CCleaner, cleared my Chrome cache again (this time I ticked everything, not just history and cache) and when I re-opened my page, it worked.

However this doesn’t explain why that DNS test still shows the old nameservers. I talked to Namecheap support last night, they weren’t very helpful – “everything appears fine on my end” – they didn’t even acknowledge the DNS test page… pathetic.

So I dunno man, maybe its a non-issue.

    I hope so. πŸ™‚

I’m not seeing the site at WordPress.com myself, but I still see the name servers pointing there. The fun mysteries of DNS and NameCheap.
