Disable the collect tracking pixel

Hi,

Cookiebot detected a tracking pixel called ‘collect’ by Google Analytics. The description is as follows – Used to send data to Google Analytics about the visitor’s device and behavior. Tracks the visitor across devices and marketing channels.

I’m trying to collect the minimum amount of data using GA. Can this tracking pixel be disabled in any way?

Are tracking pixels even necessary to mention in a cookie policy/consent popup? I thought this was for cookies only.

Hi,

I am also looking for a way to make sure this isn’t loaded please, especially as the Marketing category on the cookie banner should not be pre-ticked.

All online tracking taking place should be mentioned and prevented before the user consents.

Have a look at Implement Google Analytics using Gtag (Global Site Tag) to see if that doesn’t help you. Otherwise you’ll have to ask someone from Google if the collect pixel can be disabled, as we do not know how to do so at the moment.

By the way, if you are not using GA for marketing purposes (like remarketing), and you have set up your GA settings so that they are GDPR compliant, then you don’t need to mark up the script as “marketing”. Statistics should be sufficient.

@cookiebot Thanks. No, I’m not using GA for remarketing. I use anonymization and have User ID disabled. Is this GDPR compliant or is there anything else that needs to be done?

Hi lauratraveler,

As Cookiebot’s answer above, if you are not using GA for marketing, it is not necessary to mark it as such. If your implementation is correct you should be fine.

You can always do a manual check on what cookies are loaded and see for yourself if changes to the implementation of prior consent are needed. You can read more about it here: https://support.cookiebot.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004104033-What-does-prior-consent-mean-and-how-do-I-implement-it-
