Directory-like category listing

I have quite a few categories set up in my blog. How would I show the categories of my blog in columns, like at http://www.goarticles.com? I’ve looked over the wiki (http://wiki.wordpress.org/TemplateTags?#Categoryx20.tags), but haven’t seen much on breaking the categories up into equal columns.
