directory change

Hey all,

I’m new at building wp sites, so perhaps this is a basic question. When my page loads instead of just seeing it as the classic http://www.website.com it’s showing as http://www.website.com/wordpress/

When I changed it inside the wp admin my page was lost and I had to go deep into the files and fix it. Is there any way to mask the /wordpress/ part or adjust the directory so that it is simply http://www.website.com?
